Cooperatives Make Major head - way in Commercial Poultry
In order to generate employment and also to create infrastructure for commercial poultry in the state, the J&K Department of Cooperatives with the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) assistance have launched a major initiatives in this direction
113 projects from various Poultry Cooperatives were forwarded to NCDC for developing of infrastructure for total self sufficiency in poultry produce and coupled with employment generation. The estimated value of these projects is approximately Rs. 22.60 crores with a rearing capacity of 47.40 Lac poultry birds per annum.
Under phase 1 , 8 Poultry Projects were sanctioned by NCDC with estimated project cost of Rs. 308.00 Lac. These Cooperative Societies are based in districts; Baramulla (3), Kupwara (1) Srinagar (1), Pulwama (2) and Jammu (1). Till date 246.00 Lac have been released in favour of these poultry Cooperatives.
These 8 Poultry Cooperatives shall commence the production by June 2008. The promoters of these Poultry Cooperatives are mostly young and educated youth. The expected poultry production from these poultry Cooperatives shall be 3.50 birds per annum.
Under phase II , 23 Poultry Projects have also been sanctioned by the NCDC, which involve a block cost of Rs. 476 lacs and their expected production shall be ten Lac birds per annum.
Jenab Ab. Aziz Zargar, Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives distributed the second instalment of funds among 8 poultry Cooperatives amounting Rs.148 lacs in SKCC, today on 27th March, 2008. He emphasized that this massive financial support should be utilized to the best possible extent and our State must emerge as self sufficient in Poultry production. He also directed Department of Animal Husbandry to provide all necessary technical support including training and health care to these Poultry Cooperatives.
Earlier, Dr G.N. Qasba, Registrar Cooperative Societies, J&K gave an overview of the working Cooperatives in the state and the steps taken-up in developing of Poultry infrastructure in the State in collaboration with NCDC. On this occasion Officers from Cooperative Department, Animal Husbandry and Representatives from Poultry Cooperatives were present.
